Village Community Chorale presenting Mendelssohn's Elijah
Felix Mendelssohn's dramatic oratorio is one of the most frequently performed well loved pieces in the literature, and in the minds of many it is second only to Handel's Messiah. Composed in the spirit of the Baroque oratorio tradition, but with the grandiosity of the early Romantic era. The work balances memorable solos with dramatic choruses that bring to life the Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah confronting the King Ahab and the priests of Baal.
