This a group of 8 gifted high-school age singers chosen by audition each spring. They focus on rehearsing, studying and performing repertoire from eclectic historical and cultural traditions and will sing weekly with the Village Church Chancel Choir in worship. Periodically they will sing as an octet and also have opportunities for solos, duets, etc.
The Scholars receive training in vocal technique and in the art of choral singing as they prepare to perform at a professional level. They learn a variety of repertoire, ranging from early Renaissance music to contemporary, spirituals, gospel and music of other cultures. In May each scholar will earn a scholarship of $500 for music study and artistic endeavors. Choral Scholars’ rehearsals begin the Sunday after Labor Day in September and continue through the third week in May.
